Would You Rather? Travel Picks Inspired by the West Coast

There’s something magical about summer on the West Coast – whether you’re wandering through ancient forests, ferry-hopping to island hideaways, or soaking in the stillness of a quiet beach. But if you had to choose… which would you pick?

This “Would You Rather” Travel Edition is full of West Coast-inspired choices to spark daydreams, inspire your next trip, or fuel your next campfire chat. I’ve included my pick for each one—complete with a few favourite spots I always return to.

Let’s play:

? Would you rather…

watch the sunset from the beach
or
stargaze on a clear night?

My pick: Beach sunset. Give me that golden hour glow and the sound of the waves at Cox Bay in Tofino or Grassy Point on Hornby Island—both are stunning in completely different ways.

?? Would you rather…

camp off-grid for three nights
or
stay in a luxury treehouse?

My pick: I never thought I would choose this one, but off-grid camping on the beach at San Josef Bay in Northern Vancouver Island.

? Would you rather…

go for a forest walk
or
have a slow coffee on the dock at sunrise?

My pick: Forest walk, I’m all about forest bathing and a quiet walk through the trees. I’m partial to our local favourite, Horth Hill.

? Would you rather…

explore the tide pools at low tide
or
float in a hidden lake with no one else around?

My pick: Tide pools for me, it’s fun to explore the ocean life at Botanical Beach in Port Renfrew.

? Would you rather…

ride your bike to a roadside farm stand
or
wander through a summer market with live music?

My pick: Summer markets, brimming with local produce, homemade goodies, and crafts.

? Would you rather…

cook dinner over the campfire
or
order something delicious from a local food truck?

My pick: Campfire dinner and dessert. Simple ingredients, smoky flavour, and stars overhead? Yes, please. A few of our favourite camping spots are Wya Campground in Ucluelet and Little Qualicum Falls.

? Would you rather…

go in search of a waterfall
or
beachcomb for the perfect shell or rock?

My pick: This is a hard one, as I like both, but waterfalls win. One of my favourites is at the water’s edge at Sandcut Beach near Shirley.

? Would you rather…

picnic with your family in a quiet cove
or
go kayaking with the seals?

My pick: Do I have to pick just one? I’ll take a paddle up Gowlland Tod Inlet and a picnic on the beach.

? Would you rather…

return to your favourite trail again and again
or
try a new path you’ve never explored?

My pick: I’ll always choose a new path—especially if it promises wildflowers or waterfalls.

? Would you rather…

go for a swim on a hot day
or
go for an ice cream?

My pick: Ice cream, no question. I have so many ice cream favourites that I had to write a post on them.
