Enjoy Victoria through a local family’s favourite experiences.
Family Favourites
What is your favourite thing to do in Victoria?
Emma: One of my favourite things to do is the Malahat Skywalk. It’s a fun easy walk and the views are very pretty. I love the wooden art sculptures placed along the walk. I will have to remember to take a sketchbook next time I visit and capture them. Make sure you aren’t afraid of heights and enjoy the net at the top that looks down on the structure and be sure to take the slide on your way down. Another favourite is Virtuous Pie; they make a great pizza but I’m in it for the delicious desserts and lactose-free ice cream.

Jack: My favourite is the Interactivity Board Game Cafe. It’s a great place to spend the afternoon with friends and family or visit with a big group. They have a huge selection of games to play and the best milkshakes and game snacks. I like that you can try out new games and that they sell a lot of hard-to-find board games. They are also right next door to Cherry Bomb Toys, which is another favourite for vintage toys and collectibles.

Shelley: I have many Victoria favourites, but when I look at the Top 12 Victoria Family Experiences list the places I go back to over and over are both gardens and they both serve a great high tea. Abkhazi Gardens is such a hidden gem, that you could drive right by without even realizing what is behind the gate. The gardens are beautiful and small, you can walk around and enjoy them in less than a half hour. Spring is my favourite time to visit when the giant rhododendrons are in bloom. The tea house is another family favourite and a place we visit for special occasions like Mother’s Day and birthdays, it has a great tea service and is incredibly reasonable compared to some higher-end options in town. My second favourite is Butchart Gardens on the Saanich Peninsula. This is our go-to spot to take guests visiting from out of town and a place we enjoy throughout the year. We often buy season passes and visit all year long, it is beautiful no matter the time you visit. The Japanese garden is my personal favourite and I love the rose garden in the summer. They also have live music and lights in the garden after dark in the summer months and it’s an equally beautiful place to visit during the winter holiday season for the 12 days of Christmas in lights.

Robin: One of my favourite things to do is visit the Royal British Museum as a family. I have been going there since I was a child and now visit with my own children. We all have our favourite exhibits in the collection with many memories attached to them. The museum is a place where the past and present come to life. We also enjoy going through the temporary exhibits or catching an IMAX documentary or a feature film.
