What were your favourite three camping trips and why?
Emma:
- The Living Forest is a great place to camp. I remember biking around the campsites with my brother and grandpa and finding a trail that took us on a long, hot walk along the water where we found several old structures to explore.
- French Beach is where I have camped most often on Vancouver Island. It is always fun to return and share the funny stories of the times we have camped there before. We always had fun ways to keep each other entertained, like when we wrote and performed a play.
- I don’t think I could ever forget my first Cross-Canada Road Trip with my cousins and grandparents. We took two weeks to travel together in the motorhome and had a hilarious time. It all comes down to the music and singing to make a road trip successful and we had both.

Jack:
- Bamberton Park with my outdoor education class was one of my favourites. It was a small group of friends who paddled from Brentwood Bay to Bamberton and camped for the night.
- I enjoyed driving across Canada with my grandparents and cousins and camping along the way.
- I remember camping at Montague Harbour on Galiano Island when I was younger. It was a big group of extended family and we had lots of fun on the boat and at the beach.

Shelley:

- Before kids, Robin and I camped around New Zealand, which has some of the best campground amenities of anywhere we’ve stayed. My favourite spot on the trip was a campground in Rotorua, which backed onto the natural hot springs. After tenting for a couple of days, we got caught in a rainstorm and rented a small cabin for a couple of nights to dry out.
- My favourite place to camp on Vancouver Island is Long Beach. The Pacific Rim National Park is beautiful but can be incredibly hard to land a reservation. Instead, we love camping at Wya an oceanfront, private campground near Ucluelet. The road is a little rough, but the views and beach make it worth the trip. The beach is only accessible to those staying at the campground so it’s pretty quiet.
- My first foray into glamping was at Haida Gwaii Glamping as part of a yoga retreat with a friend and it was AMAZING. The campground is situated on a beautiful beach with large tents on the ocean. Opening the tent was like stepping into a boutique hotel in the forest.
Robin:

- Top of the World camping with my family when I was young (my mom tells me I was eight). It was my first backpacking trip that I can remember and I can still picture the crystal clear water of the lake that we paddled out on in our rickety rafts.
- Hiking into Strathcona Park to share my backpacking memories with my two kids and nieces. Of course, we did this during a heat dome, so it was HOT.
- Before kids, camping in Byron Bay, Australia on a bluff overlooking the ocean (I think it was this campground but don’t quote me on it, it was a long time ago). I remember waking up to the sound of waves and thinking life is good.
