Family Favourites

What was your favourite thing to do in Athens?

Emma: I really enjoyed our first day walking around the National Gardens and seeing all the animals, flowers and ruins. There were walkways with arches filled with plants to shade us from the scorching sun. We only made it a couple of hours before heading back to the apartment for a cool shower and gelato.

Jack: My favourite was our Airbnb in Athens, it was the best accommodation of our entire Europe trip. It was in a great location, came stocked with all kinds of foods, was air-conditioned, and I had my own room. My other favourites were all food-related. I liked the food at Iliada and Couleur Locale, which had a view of the Acropolis and played loud music that sounded like jungle animals.

Shelley: The Ancient Agora of Athens was my favourite. The site was quite a bit larger than I realized and had a lot of different things to see. It had far fewer people than the busy Acropolis but was just as interesting. In addition to the history of Athens, the food was my favourite. Every place we ate at was fantastic, the people were incredibly friendly, and the prices were some of the most reasonable of our entire European adventure.

Robin: I liked the friendliness of the locals we met in Athens. We were there during the peak of a heat wave and despite that people were friendly and outgoing. I especially loved Iliada‘s restaurant, which was close to us. The food was amazing and was only surpassed by the service and welcoming staff. Even though we ordered takeaway, they always offered us a seat, a cold drink and something to snack on while we were waiting for our meal. During our short visit, we had many great meals with great service. I enjoyed Athens so much more than I expected and would love to go back (when it is a little cooler) and stay longer to explore the city further.
